What the mod changes
FM WhatsApp belongs to the family of WhatsApp mods that also includes GBWhatsApp, YOWhatsApp and Fouad iOS WhatsApp. The modder takes the official client, alters it and adds options WhatsApp does not offer: hiding online status, blue ticks or typing indicators, reading deleted messages, sending larger files, locking individual chats, running two accounts and applying themes that change the whole interface. On paper this looks attractive. In practice, the app is installed from an APK, never passes Google Play checks, and receives updates only when the modder releases them. You also hand your chats, contacts and media to code that nobody independent has reviewed. WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption protects messages in transit, but it cannot protect them from the app on your own phone if that app has been modified.
Risks
- Not official. FM WhatsApp is not made by WhatsApp or Meta.
- Account bans. WhatsApp detects unofficial clients and temporarily or permanently bans numbers that use them.
- Hidden code. Mod APKs have been used to spread spyware and adware and to steal accounts.
- Backups. Chats of a mod cannot always be restored in official WhatsApp, so history may be lost.
Testing without risking your number
Do not install mods on the phone with your main number, banking apps and private photos. If you want to look at the mod, use a spare device or a virtual Android device such as the Android Studio emulator, with a number you do not mind losing.
The official alternative
Install WhatsApp from Google Play. Many features that mods once offered now exist officially: locked chats, hiding online status, disappearing messages, two accounts in one app on Android, and larger file sharing. WhatsApp Business adds tools for companies.
Price
The mod is distributed free, just like WhatsApp. What you risk is the account and the privacy of your chats.
Pros and cons
- Pro: many privacy toggles and themes.
- Pro: extra options for media and chats.
- Con: not from Meta; violates WhatsApp's terms.
- Con: real risk of a number ban.
- Con: unverified code with access to all chats.
- Con: updates depend on the modder.
Other messengers
Official apps on our site include WhatsApp Messenger, WhatsApp Business, Telegram and Facebook Messenger. Other WhatsApp mods listed here, such as GBWhatsApp, YOWhatsApp and WhatsApp Plus, carry the same risks.
